From late March until July 1, East Leeds FM had the honour and important responsibility of producing daily radio broadcasts to help keep our community connected during the challenging time of coronavirus lockdown.

We were granted a special Covid-19 FM broadcasting licence by OFCOM (read about that here in Big Issue North).

A special focus of these broadcasts was keeping older residents informed, connected and entertained.

During this time we produced 65 daily editions of our flagship programme “Keeping a Distance, Staying Close” packed full of special features, interviews, Living Room Concerts, Wordybirds writing segments, Community Conversations, the Great American Songbook, Music in Lockdown, Joe’s Jokes, Jake’s Film Review, The Shopping Forecast and much more.

We also produced many other special programmes from our weekly young peoples’ show Passing the Time to a 7-hour Armed Forces Day radio special produced in partnership with Leeds City Council.

And you can go back and listen to many of these broadcasts.

See below for links to our evolving Coronavirus Lockdown radio work.

While our live daily radio broadcasts are now completed, our work continues. We will be running youth projects throughout the second half of the summer, culminating in a new radio show and podcast about how young people from East Leeds see the world in unexpected ways. Click here for more on that project.
