Deaf Friends Day 2016

On the 20th of September 2016 we hosted a brilliant day of workshops for Deaf Friends, a group of young people from across Leeds with hearing impairments.
Training with schools and other groups
All kinds of groups come to Chapel FM for training—schools, community organisations, disability groups, professional artists. No two projects are the same but we will try and give you an idea of some of the things you can do. And please get in touch for a conversation...
Working with schools
We have been working with schools in East Leeds since 1998. In 2003 a group of Year 8s from John Smeaton High School who ran the first two-week broadcast of a community radio station for East Leeds: ELFM, and in 2014 we opened Chapel FM Arts Centre.
Some ways in which schools have used Chapel FM in the past
- Learn interviewing skills and interview local people or people all over the world (phone or Skype interview)
- Develop studio discussions around key topics or even arrange debates in front of an audience in the radio theatre
- Create a full radio show for live broadcast, either made completely at Chapel FM or starting in school with interviews, vox pops etc
- Create and record a radio drama or even live stream a play or other performance
- Focus on poetry or spoken word or even run a poetry slam competition
- Do the most amazing revision podcasts
- Use the studios or the radio theatre to do highlight music achievement with live performances of music and singing
- Do practical sessions in music technology with the amazing resources at Chapel FM

In terms of costs, every project is different but to give you and idea of our costs here is our basic rate card for participation work:
- Session (minimum 2 hours) £80/£120 (depending on whether we need 1 or 2 staff)
- Half day £140/£210
- Full day £280/£420
Additional hours are determined at a cost of £40/hr for a single staff member and £60/hr for two staff.
