Chapel FM’s new training programmes, designed for organisations and schools, use our experience and passion for radio, music, writing, oral history, and other arts to teach 4 connected skills.
“Sound Stories” Workshops focus on how to:

- SEEK stories about the people & places that are important to your organisation or community – finding & recording under-heard voices & narratives.
- SHAPE audio using unique storytelling methods: songs, soundscapes, poetry, documentary feature-formats, radio dramas, and more.
- SHARE sound stories with audiences using playful techniques such as live performances, site-specific sound installations, walking tours, & social change-focused calls to action.
- SAVE these stories for the future, assembling accessible audio archives that next generations can connect with & creatively re-use.
“Sound Stories” workshops by Chapel FM can be delivered in a range of different formats:
- Half-day session – introducing community participants to the basics of audio story gathering and shaping, perfect for whetting the appetite for future in-depth projects.
- Full-day workshop – guiding participants in the creation of a complete short Sound Stories radio feature about a topic of your choice.
- Two-day extended workshops – providing a complete overview of our four Sound Stories Skills: Seeking, Shaping, Sharing, and Saving.
- Week-long immersive project – diving deeply into stories that matter to your community, resulting in a live listening event / radio cabaret performance for the public and the creation of a custom audio story archive.
- Longer customised project – exploring place-based stories at your chosen pace, over more extended periods of time, setting goals around reaching wider audiences, and contributing to your big-picture goals.
“SOUND STORIES” workshops can be delivered in our venue, Chapel FM Arts & Radio Centre, in Seacroft, East Leeds or take place on-site in your community.
