Community Music Worker

Chapel FM Arts Centre – Leeds

Chapel FM Arts Centre (a project of Heads Together Productions) is searching for a Community Music Worker to plan and deliver courses and workshops on using music to help people from our community and beyond (especially young people) develop their voices and confidence, share visions for their community and connect with the wider city and world beyond East Leeds.

This work includes teaching basic and intermediate performance skills, song-writing, talking about music on the radio and in podcasts and creating audio documentaries, organising live performances involving music and other music-related skills.

In addition, the Community Music Worker will collaborate with other staff and volunteers to develop wider music offers at Chapel FM Arts Centre including providing mentoring on professional development for young musicians, helping programme live music performances, utilising our East Leed FM radio resources to showcase other music projects in Leeds and beyond and to strategise about how music can link up with other art forms such as radio, creative writing and theatre to help us tell stories about important issue about and for our community in East Leeds.

While strong music performance skills are important, it is not essential to be experience in any particular instruments or genres of music. Rather, the core requirements are to be a confident facilitator (or teacher) of arts participation classes and workshops (especially with young people ages 11-25), be able to cultivate young peoples’ interest in music and have a strong interest in the social challenges and aspirations of communities like East Leeds.

This post is 60% (21 hours/week) and is offered on a salary scale between £19,380 and £25,840 (with starting salary depending on previous experience).
