“Let me tell you about Foxwood. A place that my skipping voice would not get me thrown down stairs. Unlike other schools. It was very much like other schools.”
From 1998-2002, Neal Pike attended a special educational needs school in Nottinghamshire. Five Years is about trying to hold on to a sense of who you are during those messy, brutal and mundane years of adolescence. With warmth and humour that cuts to the bone, Neal Pike explores identity, community and the parts of him that were shaped by Foxwood.
Five Years is a return to Foxwood, a collection of stories that have, until now, been held privately. They shape a personal reflection on what it’s like to be a teenager and “disabled”.
“Full of heart, humanity, hurt & some bloody good laughs”
Comedian, Lauren Stone.
“Evocative use of language brought Foxwood School to life”

“The show talks of human-ness, of vulnerability, and ultimately of escaping those boxes.”

What is a relaxed performance?
Relaxed performances offer a warm welcome to people who find it difficult to follow the usual conventions of theatre behaviour. This can include: people with learning disabilities, movement disorders, autistic spectrum disorder, other neurological conditions, those with young children or babies, and of course, people with Tourettes.
Many other people may choose to attend a relaxed performance, either as an access requirement or because they like the inclusive environment.
Relaxed performances take a laid-back approach to noises or movement coming from the audience. They give everyone permission to relax and respond naturally. Many people feel that relaxed performances offer a more dynamic theatrical experience, which benefits everyone.
